About CLAS

Project Overview

The Coordinated Learning and Assessment Supports (CLAS) project is an Office of the Provost initiative to support continuous improvement of academic programs by  

  • providing explicit guidance and support for developing clear and measurable student program learning outcomes  
  • implementing assessment measures aligned to those outcomes 
  • using the data to improve students’ learning experiences through our programs.  

This initiative serves as Loyola’s Quality Initiative Project, a required component of our accreditation by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC).

CLAS project implementation requires building capacity among various groups of Loyola University Chicago stakeholders. Two groups of these stakeholders include:

  • CLAS Advisors – a cross-university group of leaders from academic units and academic support units who advise project leaders on policy, website content, and assessment activities. CLAS Advisors provide academic units direct support for continuous improvement of academic programs through their work with Unit-Level Assessment Leads.

  • Unit-Level Assessment Leads – attend CLAS professional development events (3x/year), lead and support an assessment team in their unit, work with the team to respond to feedback from the Provost Office and the assessment team in OIE as well as provide feedback to CLAS project leaders as to the assessment support needs of their academic unit.
